    The Drink

The Mojito cocktail itself originates from Cuba some time in the 16th century. Originally a medicinal drink known as an 'El Draque', over time it evolved into the world-famous classic we know today, showcasing a clean and refreshing combination of rum, sugar, mint, and lime juice

You could argue that if it's not broke, don't fix it, and there's certainly nothing wrong with a classic mojito - it's one of our favourite drinks. While travelling through New Zealand however, we happened to stumble across a Passionfruit Mojito at a rooftop bar, the summer sun beating down on us mercilessly, while the harbour waters sparkled like a sea of diamonds amongst the boats heading out for day trips.

The tangy, exotic taste of the passionfruit perfectly complemented the crispness of fresh mint and lime, and left us with no doubt we'd just discovered another cocktail level. Our classic mojito took over 3 years to get right, but we couldn't wait that long this time, we needed Passionfruit Mojito's in our lives. This time, it only took 1 year. We hope you enjoy!

    THE STORY

A fusion cocktail like this is a bastard cocktail, it has no home. So, we decided to give it one. We asked ourselves, if a traditional Havana mojito set out in a 1955 Cadillac to the eastern shores of Cuba, and a ripe Brazilian passionfruit hopped in a coach to Ipanema beach before jumping in a speedboat headed to the Caribbean, where would they meet in the middle? The journey seems to naturally come together in the sun-drenched shores of the Dominican Republic.

The most visited destination in the Caribbean, the natural beauty of the country is unquestionable, while the tumultuous political history over the past two hundred years has coloured the region with a unique cultural heritage, one filled with passion, independence, and a rich melting pot of diverse people, flavourful cuisine, and heady music.

A dreamy paradise of cobbled streets, antique churches and historic architecture, bright rows of colourful houses, hidden tropical waterfalls, and rows of swaying palm trees, all leading to pure ivory beaches with crystalline azure water, where you can take a boat to private coves, ride horses along the beach, or just disappear into the bliss of an afternoon in the sun-soaked sand. If we were a Passionfruit Mojito, we’d definitely live there.
