Created in Italy around 1920, this bitter yet sweet cocktail has become one of the most popular sipping drinks around the world, and owes it’s magic to simplicity, made from only amaro, vermouth and gin.
Our silver medal winning take on the classic is smooth, punchy and fragrant, blending an award winning gin from coastal Devon, inspired by spices brought back on seafaring voyages in the 1800s, blended with a deliciously rich 100 year old Italian vermouth, some gentle herbal amaro liqueur and a hint of sweet orange peel.
One sip and you’ll be transported to an overgrown villa in Florence, nibbling cicchetti as the late afternoon lingers on. Promise.

Our personal favourite cocktail, the Negroni is the perfect drink for any occasion. Whether catching up with friends at the end of a long day, watching a film on the couch or enjoying the lingering summer sun in your garden over a bbq.
The only problem is that being a very bitter drink, it is often too strong for many peoples tastes, and as such, they write it off as a bad job and try something else. We wanted to make a Negroni that was not only authentic and had all the elements to satisfy the purists, but that was a bit more mellow and easy to drink, so that everyone can come to fall in love with this incredible cocktail.
Before even starting on the recipe development, we knew without a doubt the gin we had to use. On a trip to the coast one weekend, we discovered an incredibly complex, peppery and citrus dominated gin and knew it had all the flavour notes we wanted for our Italian stallion. Not only that, it was also a small batch, craft gin, made by passionate founders and inspired by old seafaring voyages. Love, love, love.
To achieve the richness and depth, we needed a vermouth with plenty of body, almost a chocolatey christmas spiciness to it’s flavour, and we were not disappointed (after trying about a dozen others, a job we would recommend to anyone).
Last of all, the traditional Negroni specifies it must contain Campari. We don’t like being told what to do, so did a bit of research on some other Italian amaros that would still bring the bitterness, but in a much more mellow, garden inspired and gentle way.
So if you love to daydream of golden hour in a courtyard on the Amalfi coast, relaxing and people watching with friends before dinner, this is the perfect drink for you. Ice cold and over a large chunk of ice, you’ll fall in love with our Negroni. And this is a love affair, that will last a lifetime.
